Butterflies, brunch and birthdays

Hi everyone, hope your having a wonderful Sunday. I’ve had the best weekend!

458ca79275a511e19e4a12313813ffc0_7I enjoyed this lovely soya latte with raspberry syrup at one of my favourite cafes Intermezzo in Newcastle

I started the weekend with a quick run, as usual I just went out and ran with no idea of distance or pace, I think I probably did about 3.5 miles. When I came home I made a smoothie:

CIMG3590

This contained spinach, cantaloupe melon, vanilla sun warrior protein powder, maca, ground flax, water and ice then topped with some Kashi crunch. I hadn’t been planning on starting my green smoothie challenge until today but I couldn’t help myself!

Then I got ready for my day out!

I was also excited to show everyone my finished tattoo!

I’m so happy with it, I know tattoo’s aren’t for everyone but I love them and this one means a lot to me. I’ll explain the meaning behind it soon! I think its pretty tasteful and delicate and I love the colours.

Once we got to town we went to Olive and Bean for a bit of brunch:

I had granary toast with peanut butter and jam and a large soy latte and James had the continental platter. You can’t beat good old peanut butter on toast sometimes!

After that we had a look round the shops and went to see The Hunger Games at the Tyneside Cinema. I think I’ve posted a pic of their screen before but I just love its old fashioned style so much:

I really enjoyed the movie and thought they did a pretty good adaptation of the book. I also indulged in a little budget friendly shopping, I got a neutral coloured blazer and a bright pink sleeveless top from H&M and a fab pair of boot cut jeans from a charity shop for £4! After that James got the train home and I went to my parents. Its my wonderful friend Kate’s 30th Birthday today so me and my other best friend decided to surprise her. I fancied a drink so thought I would stay at my parents which is closer. My friend Claire bought Kate this epic cake:

Oh and yes, I did enjoy one of those cupcakes and a large slice of the cake (of course it wasn’t vegan but I’m enjoying my more flexible approach to that right now) plus a few glasses of Cava, Southern Comfort and lots and lots of crisps and chocolate. We had a great time! I’ve been friends with those two for over 17 years and they are the best friends ever, we had such a laugh just chatting and catching up. This morning I paid for both the alcohol and the sugar with a nasty hangover, but nothing a green smoothie can’t fix!

CIMG3610

That was a very cleansing green smoothie with spinach, chinese pear, celery, vanilla sun warrior protein powder, ginger, maca, ground flax, water and ice. Along with a pot of kuricha green tea it sorted me out a treat!

It was lovely that both my friends commented on how much better they thought I looked with a bit more weight on and they were happier that I seemed to be more relaxed about eating ‘unhealthy’ foods and enjoying myself :-) At the end of the day I have to keep reminding myself that I eat healthily 90% of the time and a few drinks and sugary foods enjoyed with my friends is one of life's pleasures!

Today I’ve just been enjoying chilling out. I made myself a lovely big salad for lunch with romaine, cucumber, red pepper, sprouts, basil tofu, olives and home of my green goddess dressing:

I just love that tofu!

So I have started my green smoothie challenge – one green smoothie a day for at least 7 days. As I was saying on Friday I just feel the need for them at the moment and after recent indulgences I think my body will appreciate it. Like I said if you’d like to join in the challenge let me know and I can link back to your posts. Here’s some green smoothie recipes for you and my ultimate green smoothie recipe. I’m also feeling very attracted to salads and simple Buddha bowls right now while at the same time really wanting to do some baking! I think I’ll be enjoying the baking next weekend :-)

Have you had a good weekend so far? Do you have a favourite cinema or cafe? What kind of foods are you attracted to at the moment?

Cinema and Shoes

Hi everyone, hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend! Its been a very sad one news wise, just makes me remember how precious life is.

Apart from all of that I’ve had a super weekend: I’ve seen some of my wonderful friends, enjoyed a great movie, had a super run, listened to some new music and ate lots of tasty food, what more could a girl like me ask for? I also went to see my Mam and Dad who are celebrating their 30th Wedding Anniversary! I’ll save you the cheesy photo’s but they really are wonderful parents and I’m extremely lucky to have them :-)

Yesterday we headed into town to run some errands, meet up with some friends for a coffee and go and see Harry Potter which I really enjoyed. OOTD:

Floral top with exposed zip up the back: Urban Outfitters, beaded necklaces: Oasis / charity shop, boot cut jeans: French Connection, black and gold gladiator sandals: Primark, Cocktail ring: Topshop, bracelets and bangles: various, Quilted bag: Topshop, floral scarf tied around bag: Accessorize

I loved this outfit and enjoyed layering up plenty of fun accessories for a fun summery look!

We watched the movie at my favourite cinema: The Tyneside Cinema, it has a lovely vintage feel, check out the screen:

So beautiful!

I took along some cinema snackies:

P1080363

Pink lady apples, sugar snap peas, chocolate chip peanut butter Lara Bar and a pack of ‘skinny’ salted popcorn which was yummy! I also found this tasty sandwich in Boots:

cameraroll-1311501567.091497

Beetroot, hummus, rocket and cumin seeds on wholemeal bread, vegan, organic and delicious!

While in town I picked up a couple of things for next weekends Kendal Calling Festival including some bargain floral headscarves from New Look and a giant floral waterproof coat although I really hope I don’t need it! I also found these shoes in the Next sale:

P1080446

I can’t explain how much of a big deal it is to find some pumps that actually fit my wide size 7 1/2 feet and feel really comfortable! Anyone else have difficult feet?

This morning I set out for my long run. It was great, 10 miles in 1.26 with an average pace of 8.39, I was on fire! Best pace over that distance yet and after Wednesdays lack lustre run I was very happy.

Eats have been lush! Yesterday’s breakfast:

P1080355

Natures Path Mesa Sunrise Cereal with soy yoghurt, peach, raspberries and cashew butter sauce.

Stir fried broccoli, chard, carrot, courgette, red and green pepper and mushrooms with a soy, ginger and sweet chilli sauce plus leftover teriyaki tempeh:

P1080391

Officially in love with the tempeh now!

Huge slab of dark chocolate:

P1080396

Loved this, its over an inch thick I had to gnaw at it!

Post run PB&J green smoothie:

P1080412

Red lettuce, strawberries, strawberry hemp protein powder, maca powder, barley grass, ground flax, msm crystals, coconut nectar, water, ice, xanthan and guar gums for thickness topped with crumbled peanut butter puffins, freeze dried berries, cacao nibs and lashings of smooth salted peanut butter sauce.

Today’s lunch:

P1080428

Toasted farmers market seeded rye bread with broad bean mash (steamed and double shelled broad beans, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil) carrot sticks, cucumber and a peach. The broad bean mash was really good for something so simple!

New recipe spicy rye bean burgers with half a small baked sweet potato and some steamed greens with shoyu:

P1080457

These burgers turned out perfectly, recipe to come soon!

I also made a tasty ‘nutella’ pudding by blending ice, hazelnut butter, raw cacao, stevia, water, xanthan and guar gums:

P1080463

Next time I’m going to add some Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut butter!

I’ve also consumed obscene amounts of this:

P1080422

I bought a huge watermelon on Friday and I just haven’t been able to get enough, so so good! I have frozen some for future smoothies and slushies :-)

I really enjoyed our trip to the cinema, it felt like a real treat! When was your last trip to the cinema and what did you see? What are your favourite cinema snacks?

Bucket loads of fruit and veggies

After I had posted last night I was feeling a bit snacky so I had some faux red wine in the form of a few glasses of red grape juice (watered down as its so sugary) with 3 little squares of dark chocolate. I just couldn't resist!

This mornings breakie was utterly wonderful. I crumbled a slice of my home made Date Carrot and Walnut Loaf cake with some greek yoghurt, chopped strawberries and a spoon of crunchy peanut butter. I also had a mug of English Breakfast tea with a splash of milk.

A-maz-ing! This just tasted so good!

I spent the morning just chilling out and trying to sort through some of my magazines. As the hubby was off today we decided to go to the cinema to see Iron Man 2. I made up three bags of snackies - the last of my lentil and bean sprouts, raisins and a few dates and a couple of savory rice cakes.

The movie was ok, not as good as the first Iron Man and the middle bit of the film was quite slow but we still enjoyed it though. To be honest it was just nice to get to the cinema for a change!

When we got home I took the hubby for a KFC (yuk!) and I made myself some lunch. I decided to use up all the random veggies in the fridge and do a stir fry with some wholemeal noodles. I stir fried asparagus, courgette, red pepper, carrot, red onion and spring onion with some garlic, ginger and soy sauce and served it with the noodles.

It was so tasty! I don't usually have noodles with my stir fries but as I had no chicken or salmon defrosted I thought I would have them for a nice change. I also had a chopped apple and orange.

For dinner I made some turkey and hummus wraps with cos lettuce and spinach and some chopped carrot and cucumber on the side followed by a huge bowl of chopped strawberries, kiwi and red grapes.

I feel like I've ate bucket loads of fruit and veg today, I must of had at least 10 portions!

Drinks - water, green tea, decaf tea, English breakfast tea

Well another weekend bites the dust! I'm happy that I've had the opportunity to chill out a bit this weekend, I feel a bit more prepared for the week ahead when I haven't been rushing around like a headless chicken!

I finally managed to finish looking through all of my magazines and pulling out the bits I want to keep so I think I might spend the rest of this evening watching TV with the hubby whilst starting to get my inspiration board together. I'll definitely be posting some pics of that when its done!

Hope you have all had a great weekend, catch you tomorrow! x
