Cold weather exercise and Zalando.co.uk

Well it finally seems like the colder weather is starting to kick in here in the UK! The wind was bitterly cold over the weekend and the part of my run that I did outdoors was tough. However, I am happy to say I wasn’t too cold!

I get particularly cold hands when running and performing other exercise in colder temperatures so when I was contacted by Zalando a couple of weeks ago to see if I was interested in reviewing some of their products I thought I would begin by checking out their colder weather workout gear.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the site but I was happily surprised by the very good range of sports wear. The site was very easy to navigate as well, the search options are very good which is useful considering how many products they have available. I decided to get some Nike thermal running gloves (£18) and a Nike reversible head scarf (£15.95):

I wanted to see if some proper thermal gloves would help my cold hands and if the wider head band would help keep my ears warm! I tested them out on my run at the weekend:

Please excuse my make up free early morning face and the fact that the headband is upside down! In addition to the gloves and headband I was also wearing my Asics Gel Nimbus running shoes, running tights, a vest with a thermal long sleeve base layer on top and then my hoody. I find that a lot of thin layers do the trick for keeping me warm whilst not being too bulky.

I really liked both the gloves and the headband. As you can see from the photographs above, the band is very wide and covers a good proportion of my head – I don’t like wearing a hat while running so this is a good alternative to keep my ears warm. The gloves have a lovely fleecy fabric on the inside and on the palms of the hands. I tend to touch my face and rub my nose a lot when running so having the soft fabric makes these much better than my other gloves. The gloves also have a little built in key pocket which I think is an excellent idea! Both items are pretty pricey and I’m not sure I would have paid this much for them had I not had the chance to try them first. However, particularly in the case of the gloves, I would definitely be happy to pay more for good quality as my hands can get extremely painful to the point of avoiding running altogether, and these certainly did the trick for me!

As I said, the actual website was quite surprising. As well as stocking a very good selection of workout gear, trainers etc, they stock clothing, shoes and beauty products. There are no delivery charges and you can also pay via PayPal which I love as I hate registering for multiple sites.

I now feel like I’m well equipped for aiming to continue my outdoor running for as long as possible! How do you prepare for working out in colder weather? Have you purchased anything from Zalando and if so what did you think?
