Rude Health Fruity Date Porridge Review

A few weeks ago the lovely folks over at Rude Health sent me some of their Fruity Date Porridge to try out and review for the blog. I was more than happy to give it ago!

Rude Health are a company with a great ethos – they believe that breakfast should be a meal that is savoured, not rushed. Their products are all organic and appear to be very high quality.

The Fruity Date Porridge is a mix of Porridge Oats, Jumbo Oats, Oatmeal, Dates, Apricots, Apple, Ground Apple and Cinnamon.

Over the last few weeks I have enjoyed several delicious bowls including:

Chocolate Raspberry Protein Porridge

I have tried the porridge made with milk, soy milk, half milk / half water and all water. I usually made up my servings using 1/2 cup of the porridge mix and 1 cup of liquid and cooked it in the microwave for 2 minutes on high.

Whatever mix of milk or water I used the porridge always turned out wonderfully creamy. The addition of the apple and dates gives the porridge a little bit of natural sweetness so I didn’t feel the need to add any additional sugar. I also really enjoyed the chewy dates in the mix, just delicious!

I often add a scoop of whey protein to my porridge once its cooked and this worked extremely well with this. I also recently tried adding a couple of egg whites in at the end of cooking for an additional protein boost which made the porridge even more creamy and satisfying!

Overall I’ve really enjoyed this product. The packaging is great and I can really connect with the companies ethos – I love relaxing and enjoying a hearty breakfast!

The only negative is the cost, it is a little on the pricey side, however this is a high quality organic product. A 500g box retails at £3.89 and I must have had a good few 1/2 cup servings out of this. I have to say I’ve been converted, I did not know what true creamy porridge tasted like until trying this. I think you could get a similar result mixing various kinds of oats together (I think the oat bran makes it creamy) but if your lazy like me ;-) this is just perfect.

Rude Health also do several other versions of porridge: Daily Oats, Top Banana and Morning Glory (grain and seed mix). I really fancy trying the Banana and Morning Glory. They also sell various muesli, granola and puffed oats (another product I’m dying to try!)

So all in all a big thumbs up from me!

Have you tried any of the Rude Health products before? What did you think?
